A Report from Ministry Leader Chrissy Evans
The Backpack Pals team kicked off the school year this week after a break over the summer.
Students are provided free breakfast and lunch during the school days, but many do not have stable food sources over the weekend. Backpack Pals helps to meet that need.
Volunteers shop, stage the assembly line, pack and deliver bags of food to 60 students at Wahl-Coates Elementary each weekend during the school year.
We’d like to give a special shout out to Scott and Anne Heritage for their 10 years of service delivering bags each week to Wahl-Coates! They will be passing off those duties this year, but we want to recognize their dedication to the Backpack Pals Ministry over the last decade.
Thank you, St. James, for your continued support of the Backpack Pals ministry. Our plastic bag supply is literally overflowing and the donations of ravioli, mac and cheese cups and Vienna sausages are appreciated as well as monetary donations. Thank you also to the 3rd-8th grade Sunday School classes for helping to pack bags the fourth Friday of each month and to our team of faithful volunteers. Many hands make light work!
Come see us this week at the Ministries Fair or reach out to chrissyevans@suddenlink.net if you would like to learn more about this ministry or volunteer. We generally pack bags at 11:15 on Mondays, once or twice a month, and deliver bags to Wahl-Coates on Thursdays during the school day.
Thank you!
Chrissy
