You, God, are my God; earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you.

-Psalm 63:1

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

-Isaiah 58:11

My morning routine includes taking a number of pills prescribed by my physician to keep my body "up and running." All this has been dictated by regular blood tests and other technology to see how physically healthy (or not) I am.

Spiritual inspection is a little different. How can I know (and show) that my spiritual growth is in line with who God calls me to be? In a recent devotional, Debbi McComber pointed out that God has given us lists of remedies to measure our spiritual growth: the Ten Commandments (Deuteronomy 6:6-21), the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12), the building blocks of faith (2 Peter 1:5-7), and the fruit of the Spirit — the attributes of the mature Christian (Galatians 5:22-25). The directions for taking this spiritual remedy is "Take at least once daily; more often as needed."

Does your daily agenda include a physician prescribed dose of pills? Have you also set aside time for a daily dose of Great Physician medication/meditation? Will you use one to remind you of the necessity of the other?

Well, I am about to sit down with a good dose of God's Word. And, yes, there is yet, another set of pills this evening and possibly more of God's remedy before bed.

Lord God, You are the Great Physician; You alone have the power to heal and strengthen mind, body, and soul. Thank you for your lists of prescriptions to guide us through our days. By your grace, help us grow in Christlikeness. Amen.
