Written for the Glory of God by Tom Greener

"The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim).

-Romans 10:8

Some years ago, a friend of mine commented that it would be easier to get people to believe in grace if we just charged a little bit. It's the free that gets folks. After all, who was not taught, "there's no such thing as a free lunch." It is comforting to us to think that we did something special, that sure God loves us, but then again who wouldn't? The thing that makes grace Amazing is that God doesn't actually have to love us, and yet still does.

It's not hard; the words are in your mouth already. Speak with our lips, says Romans; believe in our hearts, says Paul. I love a phrase I read many years ago from an author that says, "When God looks on us, God smiles. Pure religion is learning to smile back." (From If God Is Love, by Philip Gulley and James Mulholland).

God of grace, how amazing to know that you already dreamed of us long before we ever came to be. Grant that we may rest in your grace and know ourselves in your love. Fill us up to the very brim with a grace that will not let us go. Amen.
