Helping Sick & Shut-in

Cards

We have ministry teams who meet each month to write notes and send cards to our homebound members as well as to those who are sick, in the hospital, grieving the death of a loved one, and other difficult life situations. They also send cards to acknowledge happy events such as confirmation, graduation, marriage, and new babies.

Visiting Ministries

We match up our homebound members with a visitor who will make at least one visit a month and then phone one other time during the month to check in. These visitors help maintain an important connection with the church for those no longer able to attend worship or classes.

We also have volunteers who visit members in the hospital. Clergy also visit and are available to meet and pray with persons before surgery and to be present during emergencies.

For more information on any of these ministries, please contact the front office at (252) 752-6154 or email at infor@stjconnect.org.

Caregiver Ministries

Caring for loved ones who are sick or homebound is both a blessing and a challenge. Our Caregiver Support Group meets every Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the church library. We welcome anyone who wants to come whenever you can come. We also offer workshops designed to provide helpful information for those providing care to loved ones, especially elderly parents.

Meals

When a family or individual is going through a crisis or challenge, they do not always have the time or energy to cook. We use an online service called Meal Train where volunteers sign up to prepare or purchase meals and then deliver them.

Handyman Ministry

This ministry provides help with simple handyman chores for those who no longer have the ability to do them on their own. Our volunteers are able to perform certain kinds of repairs as well as tasks such as changing light bulbs and air filters.

Transportation and Errands Ministry

For persons unable to drive, we can provide transportation to doctors’ appointments, the hair stylist, grocery store, etc. We can also pick up items and deliver them to the house.
