Kristin Hannah's The Women

The St. James UMC Book Club will holds its first meeting of the book club year on Sunday, September 15, at 5 p.m. in the Parlor.

The book that is up for discussion is The Women by Kristin Hannah. Of the nearly 10,000 women who served in Vietnam, more than 7,000 were nurses. Many were just barely out of nursing school when they were sent overseas. The Women is the story of one woman gone to war, but it shines a light on the stories of all women who put themselves in harm’s way to help others.

All too often, the sacrifice and commitment women have made to their country has been forgotten. A novel of searing insight and lyric beauty, The Women is a profoundly emotional, richly drawn story with a memorable heroine whose extraordinary idealism and courage under fire define a generation.
