Congregations For Children (C4C) is a state-wide initiative of The United Methodist Church focused on reflecting the love of Christ to our “neighbors” by helping children in public schools who are living in poverty. C4C’s areas of focus include:

1. Helping to improve K-3 Literacy rates (volunteer tutors, collecting/donating books, summer reading programs etc.)
2. Helping to meet the Basic Needs of students (food, clothing, supplies etc.)
3. Helping to increase Parental Involvement (and interactions with positive adult role models – i.e. lunch buddies, morning greeters, Watch DOGS etc.)

Together In Education

Support Wahl-Coates School through Together In Education

As part of St. James’ ongoing efforts to support our neighborhood school, Wahl-Coates Elementary, please consider linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to Wahl-Coates. The school code for Wahl-Coates is 2852. All you have to do to enroll is to tell the cashier or customer service representative that you want to link your card to Wahl-Coates, and they can do it for you at the register.

Through Harris Teeter’s Together In Education program, Wahl-Coates and others schools can earn funds from linked VIC cards. When you shop Harris Teeter brands, a percentage of your purchase is donated to the school that your VIC card is linked to. There are no limits to how much a school can earn.

Please note that all VIC cards must be linked yearly. There is no cost to linking your VIC card. Participating schools can earn funds from August through May of each school year.

New Playground Dedicated at Wahl-Coates

After several years of grant writing and fund raising, the new playground equipment has finally been installed over at Wahl-Coates Elementary School of the Arts! The much needed equipment includes an all-inclusive playground space, complete with ramp access and a wheel chair accessible swing. The playgrounds were officially dedicated on May 14, 2019 with a special ribbon cutting ceremony. Students, teachers, school board members, members from St. James and C4C, along with members from the community and Cypress Glen were among those who were invited to participate in the special ribbon cutting ceremony. Wahl-Coates Elementary School of the Arts was a 2018 Spring Fling recipient which helped fund the much needed playgounds. The students are already putting them to good use, and we are excited that they will have a fun and safe place to play for many years to come!
