We’re glad you are here!

St. James KiDS, the children’s ministry of St. James UMC, is a place where faith, imagination and learning go hand in hand. Through creative, active, age-appropriate and Bible based experiences children are guided and encouraged to grow in faith and become deeply committed followers of Jesus.

Living Water Sunday School Starts Back September 10th!

Are you ready to be refreshed with the Living Waters that Jesus offers? (John 4:10) The fall kick-off to all classes will be this Sunday, September 10th.Children will be introduced to their new classrooms and teachers for the semester beginning at 9:45 am on Sunday, September 10th. All Children are welcome!

All children should first be registered at the Children’s Check-In counter where they will then be led to their new grade-level rooms and meet their new teachers!

If you worship at the earlier services, please consider checking your children in prior to the worship service. This will help eliminate some of the congestion prior to the Living Water class hour.

We look forward to seeing you all at church on September 10th!

Checking In & Out

At St. James KiDS, we use Lambs List, an on-line check-in system. Our check-in area is located in the main building, between the Fellowship Hall and the Narthex, and is operated by volunteers. Volunteer staff will enter your name for you. A label for your child and one for you will print out. Both labels will have a matching number. There are LED displays in both the Sanctuary and the CLMC. Your number will display if you are needed in the St. James KiDS area.

Children in the nursery are checked-out at the check-in area. All other children are brought to you in the Good-bye hallway located at the breezeway between the education and CLMC buildings.

Children’s Worship

Children’s Worship starts back on September 10th!
Children’s Worship is for St. James kids who are in Kindergarten through grade 5.  We worship together in the chapel each Sunday during the 8:45 & 9:00 services.  During this worship time kids learn hymns, order of worship, prayers, and creeds. Children participate as readers, ushers, and acolytes. For your child to be a part of this worship time, simply check them in at our Children’s Ministry Welcome Desk  located in The Commons.  The children will go directly from Children’s Worship to Living Water Sunday School.
Kids’ worship packets are available at all services for children who prefer to worship with their parents.

Children’s Worship is:
  • Held in the Chapel
  • Designed especially for children
  • Where children help lead worship
  • Where children learn the meaning & purpose of worship
  • Where children learn the prayers & creeds of our Christian Faith

Together In Education

Support Wahl-Coates School through Together In Education

As part of St. James’ ongoing efforts to support our neighborhood school, Wahl-Coates Elementary, please consider linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to Wahl-Coates. The school code for Wahl-Coates is 2852. All you have to do to enroll is to tell the cashier or customer service representative that you want to link your card to Wahl-Coates, and they can do it for you at the register.

Through Harris Teeter’s Together In Education program, Wahl-Coates and others schools can earn funds from linked VIC cards. When you shop Harris Teeter brands, a percentage of your purchase is donated to the school that your VIC card is linked to. There are no limits to how much a school can earn.

Please note that all VIC cards must be linked yearly. There is no cost to linking your VIC card. Participating schools can earn funds from August through May of each school year.

Fall Classes 2019 – Children

The midweek family night offers children’s choir and classes for kids in Pre-K to fifth grade.  If you do not find an adult class that interests you this Fall, please consider helping with our children’s programs. Remember, Wednesday nights are for the entire family.  We discourage parents from bringing their children to programming and then leaving.

Nursery Care—will be provided for children aged 6 weeks–2 years old (preschool). Please be sure to register your children for TGIW nursery care with our nursery staff.  Contact Taylor Dougherty at taylor@stjconnect.org to register your infant and preschool children.

“The Story”— Children will experience God’s great love by bringing his story to life!  During the Fall TGIW, we will focus on the first 11 engaging lessons of this curriculum.  This curriculum will be used across all ages of our TGIW programming this Fall, with the exception of our second and third graders (see below).  Preschool through first grade children will experience a short video, short lesson, and a skit. Our fourth and fifth grade students will begin with a partial lesson and will then work the remainder of the time to prepare and present “the skit” to our PreK-first grade students.  Molly Carpenter and EBea Hobgood are leading these classes, but they will need parents to help assist.

“God and Me”— The God and Me curriculum is designed to help children become best friends with Jesus and tell their story of “God and Me” together.  Children will make a game in each lesson and keep their games in a GAMEBox (God And Me Exploring BOX).  These games will reinforce the Bible lessons and provide opportunities for families to explore God’s love together.  The program includes awards/emblems that are approved for wear on the official uniforms of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Camp Fire USA, and American Heritage Girls.  All church youth in second and third grades (whether or not they belong to a scouting group) are eligible to participate.  Lacy Hobgood is leading this class, but will need parents to help assist.

Children’s Community Garden

The Children’s Ministry Team is pleased to announce that we have a new, children’s community garden behind the church along 8th Street next to the Scout Hut. The four beds and two benches were built by member Pierce Harner as part of his Eagle Scout Project.  It is our hope that these gardens will produce vegetables which we can donate to our own church food pantry. If anyone is interested in helping maintain these gardens, please contact Molly at: molly@stjconnect.org.

Family Worship

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

Beginning in October, we are starting something new! The FIRST Sunday of every month will be Family Worship. On these first Sundays, we will not offer Children’s Chapel or Childcare for school-age children during the worship services. Instead, we are excited to have them join us, share communion with us, and worship with the congregation! Nursery will still be provided for infants-4 year olds, and we will have Sunday school classes as usual for all ages during the Living Water hour.

For more information, please contact Molly Carpenter at 752-6154 or Molly@stjconnect.org
