Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is a ministry of our congregation that equips lay persons to provide distinctly Christian one-to-one care to persons, both in our congregation and community, who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, . The Stephen Ministers in our congregation offer their service under the rule of strict confidentiality. They undergo 20 weeks of training prior to being assigned as a Stephen Minister. In addition to their training, they have ongoing peer group support and continuing education support. To become a Stephen Minister or to be assigned a Stephen Minister to help you through your situation, contact Rev. Joyce Day at the church office or email.
Spring Fling
Spring Fling is probably St. James' largest single item mission project. Each year a number of local organizations apply for a grant towards a project they have. Over the past 13 years, St. James has given away over $500,000 to many local non-profit agencies in the community. In addition, an endowment has been established whereby funds can be distributed in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency as in the case of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The funds are raised by an all-day event held the 4th Saturday in April. The combination of Greenville's largest Yard Sale, Biscuit Breakfast, Bazaar, Bake Sale, Chicken Dinner (over 2000 chicken plates sold) and Auction, truly offers everyone something to do for that day. All the profits from the day go to local missions.
Recreational Activities
St. James UMC sponsors co-ed softball teams, a men's softball team and basketball teams through the Parks and Recreation Church League.
