Do you wonder what happened to the thousands of meals we packaged last October? Read this email we received!
I hope that all of you are doing well and that you are looking forward to a wonderful Christmas. I am excited to share some news that might make the holidays, or the New Year, better for some people in the Dominican Republic. The meals from your packaging event left Snow Hill Monday, Nov. 29 as part of a shipment of 285,120 meals! They went to New York where they were added to a shipment of other humanitarian goods and embarked for the Dominican Republic. We are partnering with CitiHope, a relief organization which works around the world, and fits our selection criteria well. For more information about them visit www.citihope.org/. In the Dominican Republic 42% of population lives below the poverty line, causing severe food shortages throughout the country. CitiHope evaluates and selects needy communities/institutions, takes an active role in the distribution and monitoring, ensuring that diversion does not take place and that the donated foods are delivered in controlled amounts to final beneficiaries. Selected institutions receive no assistance or are very inadequately served. Many of the needy go hungry for days and do not receive proper, balanced nutrition. CitiHope is very careful about selecting communities and institutions with sustainable educational and development programs that empower locals to create strong, self-sufficient communities.
Thank you for partnering with us to help package meals and spread awareness about world hunger. The meals your group helped package was much more than just a few meals in a bag. Each bag contains a miracle of hope for someone that has little hope.
We look forward to working with you again in the future!
