Memorial Garden Serves Needs of Members,
Many Niches Are Still Available

Since the completion of the memorial garden four years ago, St. James has received high praise from members of other churches who are considering building similar gardens. Indeed, we are fortunate to have a garden that is located in a prominent location adjacent to the sanctuary that gives members an option of placing cremated remains in a beautiful area and establishing a permanent remembrance at the church. Today, more and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burials because of costs, environmental concerns and, most important, by having that final resting place on church property. Because of these same concerns, many churches are now constructing memorial gardens.

Although it is entirely natural for many families to delay making final arrangements, the Memorial Garden Committee encourages church members to consider purchasing a niche for interment in our memorial garden, eliminating the necessity of family members to make arrangements during a stressful time. For members planning to be buried in other locations, we would like for you to consider a memorial plaque as a proper remembrance on church property. This remembrance might also appeal to families of deceased members, especially those who were active over many years. Further, a member, group or class may wish to donate
a plaque for a deceased former pastor.

The current cost of a double niche is $2,500, but one may be purchased in three equal installments over a three year period. The cost of memorial plaques are: double plaques - $1,000, single plaque- $525. For all purchases please contact the church office for the necessary forms.

If you have further questions about the memorial garden, please contact any of the following committee members. Wade Harmon, Hoyt Narron, Carolyn Daughtrey, Anne Heritage and Bill Watson.
